Simple Present Continuous Tense

Definition: Simple present Continuous tense is used to indicate that an action is in progress at the present time. In this tense the verb is suffixed with ing.

Formula: Subject + am / is / are + Main verb ing + object.

Examples: 

I am calling my Friend.

She is singing a song.

They are looking at me.

Forms:

  • Affirmative:
  1. I am working.
  2. You are working.
  3. He/She/It is working.
  • Negative:
  1. I am not working.
  2. You are not working.
  3. He/She/It is not Working.
  • Questions:
  1. Am I working?
  2. Are You Working?
  3. Are/We/They working?
  4. Is She/He/It working?

Uses:

  • To express the progressive actions.
  1. I am writing a Novel.
  2. I am Learning to play Games.
  3. Madhura is making a film.
  • For an action happening now.
  1. He is running now.
  2. Ramesh is teaching now.
  3. Now, Rishi is reading a book.
  • For expressing definite arrangements or plans in the near future.
  1. I am going to explain it tomorrow.
  2. Mahesh is going on tour on coming Sunday.
  3. She is going to visit her friend tomorrow.
  • For an action happening about this time but not necessary at the movement of speaking.
  1. Madhuri is learning to dance
  2. Ajay is preparing a chair.
  3. We are preparing for examination these days.

The train is going to arrive at 6:00 tomorrow morning.
